My girlfriend Steff was hospitalized for most of the past two months because of her diabetes and because of complications from surgery to remove a bone spur from her big toe. I'm happy to say that she's been back at home for a little over a week, and as of the last few days she's eating normally again and regaining her strength.

She's due to go back to work Monday, for the first time since the end of March. Poor Steff has been going crazy, cooped up either at the hospital or in our apartment, so she's looking forward to getting out & about again, even if it is just to go to work.

We've managed to hit some of our favorite activities over the last few days as a mini-vacation before she gets back into the swing of things. We saw the new Star Trek movie, which was a lot better than I expected. I think the twist was a little heavy-handed, but I won't ruin it for anyone who still hasn't seen the film. We also went to one of our favorite thrift stores, where we got enough clothes to fill a rather large garbage bag for just about $20. Last, but not least, we indulged in the tasty, tasty grease pit that is 5 Guys Burgers & Fries.

Steff's blood sugar is still averaging 250-300, but we're keeping on top of it by checking every 2-4 hours. She uses an insulin pump, and we think part of the problem was the fact that her old pump stopped working properly. She'd test at 580, bolus for it, and still be at 450 an hour later. Now in the same situation she'd at least drop down to 200. It's not perfect, since she's aiming for 120 with the bolus, but we'll be seeing her endocrinologist again next week to discuss options. At least now there's progress.
